What is intelligence? What does it mean to have a brain? Does having a brain make you intelligent?
This term we are investigating the amazing human brain.

The Facts: Level 1

a. The Human Brain -  NAME the main phases of sleep in humans

b. The Human Brain - DESCRIBE in point form (bullets) the functions of the left & right hemispheres of the brain

c.The Human Brain -  LABEL a diagram of the brain showing its main functions and their locations

d. The Human Brain - The Human Brain - DEFINE these words:
• synapse   • impulse
• neuron      • dendrite
• senility      • stroke
• ESP          • telepathy

** And give yourself congratulations for determination, if you make a GAME out of this on your website: just copy  the words, and then add their definitions below in a different order. See if viewers can match them up correctly!

Understanding: Level 2

a. The Human Brain - Choose ONE of the following, and explain the main development of symptoms, in some form of time-line:
• senile dementia   • stroke
• Alzheimer's          • sleeping
• concussion        • Parkinson's      • Hodgkinson's

b. The Human Brain - LIST at least TEN different human emotions.

Then choose one, and SUMMARISE (using bullet points) the main effects of that emotion on the human body.

c. The Human Brain - SUMMARISE in point form, and in sequence, the effects of adrenalin on the body.

Then RECALL & DESCRIBE a time when you had a rush of adrenalin!

Use It or Lose It: Level 3

a. The Human Brain -  RESEARCH & SUMMARISE how one of the following is supposed to work:

      • brain gym     
      • meditation
      • biofeedback  
      • relaxation techniques

b. The Human Brain -  RESEARCH & rewrite in your own words, how PLACEBOS (pretend pills) actually work on the human body and brain.**

** Congratulate yourself for persistence and determination, if you actually interview a real doctor about this!

c. The Human Brain - Police use  identikits to form pictures of criminals from people's memories.
ARRANGE a visit with a police officer to talk about Identikits and other methods of identification. How successful are they really?
